Alumacraft boats have many types with wide flat gunnels.  These flat surfaces provide an excellent point of installation for a transducer downrod system.

In addition Bay Boats typically have wide gunnels which also allow for flat surface mounting of a baseplate and downrod system.

Any level area that has a 4×4 inch area that is flat can use a simple sub plate mounting.

Baseplates sit atop the sub plate using one of two mounting methods.

  1. Thumbscrews:  a couple of nylon thumbscrews that act as a quick removal as well as a strain relief should the downrod hit something while deployed.
  2. Magnetic Switches:  magnetic switches

Baseplate selection should take into consideration the span, or distance, from the outer edge of the sub plate to the outside rub rail of the boat.  Refer to the drawing below, Dimension D.

Sub plate Mounting 1 Sub plate Mounting

Sub plate is mounted to the pontoon deck

Allows the baseplate to be removed from the side of the boat if needed and also provides break away strain relief mounting for accidental impacts

Mounting Plates are 4x4 inches and 3/8 inch tall.

Depending on the baseplate ordered, these sub plates accept Thumbscrew mounting or use Magnetic attachment.
The proper sub plate will be supplied depending on the type of baseplate selected.

Baseplate Length and Material 2 Baseplate Length and Material

Baseplates (the part that holds the downrod) can be made in a polymer material or in Aluminum and are held with either Thumbscrews or magnetic attachment.

Polymer baseplates are considered light duty. The water fished is relatively clear and the user is unlikely to run into underwater obstacles. Trolling speeds are limited to about 4mph maximum using the base Marine board and Aluminum baseplates.

Magnetic baseplates release at a slightly lower speed of 3.5mph and also release more reliably than thumbscrews. As such, they are a good choice for any type of fishing

Aluminum baseplates are considered heavy duty. The Water fished may be full of stumps, trolling speeds can be high. River fishing is likely.

Refer to the outline drawing below to determine a proper baseplate length.

Baseplate Color (Aluminum are clear anodized) 3 Baseplate Color (Aluminum are clear anodized)

Marine board Baseplates can be made in either White or Black.

Aluminum baseplates are clear anodized silver. They may be painted but the user should NOT paint the inside cup area of the baseplate as it will adversely alter the fit between the downrod bushing and the baseplate.
