Handrail Mounting

Handrail mounted baseplates are often used with bass boats that are properly equipped.   Or we can also supply handrails to be mounted onto boats to utilize this style of mountings

The key to fitting a baseplate to a handrail is to measure from the center of the rail out to the rub rail of the boat.  From that number, add 2 inches.  Select a baseplate which has a B dimension greater than or equal to what is measured.

Baseplate Dimensions

This is a great option for all types of bass boats.  Skeeter, Ranger, Bass Cat, Vexus, Nitro, Champion, Lowe, Lund, as well as all other bass boats.

Baseplates sit atop the rail brackets using one of two mounting methods.

  1. Thumbscrews:  a couple of nylon thumbscrews that act as a quick removal as well as a strain relief should the downrod hit something while deployed.
  2. Magnetic Switches:  dual 150lb holding strength magnetic switches hold the baseplate to the pedestal

All Standard baseplate systems include a plastic coated stainless steel tether to hold the baseplate to the boat.  Should the downrod hit something in the water and cause the baseplate to break away from the mounting, the baseplate will follow the downrod overboard and into the lake.  If you do not wish to dive for your baseplate, the cable is the best means to hold the baseplate to the boat.

Baseplate Length and Material 2 Baseplate Length and Material

Baseplates (the part that holds the downrod) can be made in a polymer material or in Aluminum and are held with either Thumbscrews or magnetic attachment.

Polymer baseplates are considered light duty. The water fished is relatively clear and the user is unlikely to run into underwater obstacles. Trolling speeds are limited to about 4mph maximum using the base Marine board and Aluminum baseplates.

Magnetic baseplates release at a slightly lower speed of 3.5mph and also release more reliably than thumbscrews. As such, they are a good choice for any type of fishing

Aluminum baseplates are considered heavy duty. The Water fished may be full of stumps, trolling speeds can be high. River fishing is likely.

Refer to the outline drawing below to determine a proper baseplate length.

Baseplate Color (Marine board only - Aluminum are clear anodized) 3 Baseplate Color (Marine board only - Aluminum are clear anodized)

Marine board is High Density Polyethylene. A marine grade plastic 3/4 inch thick. It comes in Black or White

Aluminum is 1/2 inch thick aluminum plate with an aluminum cup. Clear anodizing leaves a silver appearance.
